Hummingbird Transcriptome Paper up on biorxiv
We’ve submitted our hummingbird PacBio IsoSeq work up to biorxiv: http://biorxiv.org/content/early/2017/03/15/117218
Congrats!! This work was a joint effort with our awesome collaborators in the Welch Lab at UToronto, Pacific Biosystems, and the Wong lab here at Hopkins.
Nature Methods Paper Published!
Our paper on nanopore methylation sequencing is published in Nature Methods: http://www.nature.com/nmeth/journal/vaop/ncurrent/full/nmeth.4184.html Sharing link here: http://rdcu.be/poIs Congrats everyone!
Winston, Stephanie and Isac head to AGBT 2017
Winston, Stephanie and Isac just went down to AGBT in Hollywood, FL (http://www.agbt.org/).
Stephanie has a talk – in the Tuesday evening (8:50-9:10PM) concurrent session (GENERAL BIOLOGY) – AGBT_2017_shao.
Isac is presenting a poster about his work on characterizing structural variants and single nucleotide variations with solution-phase capture coupled to nanopore sequencing – Isac_AGBT17_v3 copy.
And finally, Winston is presenting some of Rachael’s work hummingbird transcriptome sequencing with PacBio’s IsoSeq technology – AGBT2017_Timp_ruby_wta.
Also – please go to Jared Simpson’s talk on Thursday afternoon – he’s using some of the nanopore methylation characterization work we’ve done together on the recent NA12878 dataset.
Rachael Presenting Hummingbird Transcriptome work at PAG
Rachael is presenting a poster today at the Plant Animal Genome Meeting (PAG XXV) in San Diego (P1203, presenting Monday from 3-4:30 PST). Check it out!! For those playing at home, here’s a pdf of her poster: PAG2017poster_Workman_E
Isac and Winston presented work at the Nanopore Community Meeting in NYC (12/1/16)
A bit late to post, but Isac and Winston presented our recent work on nanopore SV (161201_ONTpresentation-v6) and nanopore methylation (timp_mcm_161201) at the Nanopore Community meeting in New York back in December 2016.

We won a JHU Catalyst award! These awards (Catalyst Awards) provide support, both financial and mentoring, to early career researchers at Johns Hopkins.
CTY Scholar Abby Cohen Presents Nanopore Mitochondrial Sequencing Work
Over the past 6 weeks we were lucky enough to have Abby Cohen, part of the Center for Talented Youth (CTY) cohort of high school students, come and work in our lab on mitochondrial DNA sequencing. Her work culminated in a poster presentation of her results, where she actually had some preliminary data showing full-length mitochondrial genome sequencing on the Oxford Nanopore minION sequencers. Great work Abby!
